Cape Town Fish Market Deals & Specials

CTFM is a brand of casual restaurants serving fresh, high-quality seafood.

Cape Town Fish Market (CTFM) is a brand of restaurants started by Douw Krugmann in the Western Cape. Douw had noticed that fresh takeaway fish tasted far better than fish that had been previously frozen, so in 1997, he decided to buy a fresh fish restaurant at the V&A Waterfront. He created the restaurant’s menu himself, making a variety of fresh seafood its main offering. His aim was for the dishes to have a distinctly South African flavour, while also including a number of Japanese-inspired items. As a result, the restaurant serves everything from simple fish-and-chips to more exotic oysters, sashimi, and even abalone, with meals being paired with a range of quality local wines. CTFM’s second store opened in Canal Walk in 2000 and the brand has since grown, via a franchising model, to 11 restaurants throughout South Africa. A restaurant also opened in Tanzania.

Since the early days of the business, Douw’s family has been actively involved in CTFM’s operations, with the his wife and children advising on individual restaurants layouts and helping with sourcing the best ingredients. Douw even goes as far as travelling extensively to meet face-to-face with suppliers worldwide to secure the best deals for his franchisees. Every restaurant is designed to combine a stylish, traditional restaurant with a vibrant seafood market. In 2013, the CTFM brand was reinvented to give it a more modern appearance, but in keeping with the original vision of the restaurant.

CTFM was the first restaurant in South Africa to introduce a sushi conveyor belt.
