Aldo South Africa offers high-quality leather goods and fashion accessories.

Aldo Shoes is part of the Aldo Group – a Canadian fashion empire owned by Aldo Bensadoun. The company was established in Montreal in 1972 when Aldo – following in the footsteps of his shoemaker father and cobbler grandfather – set up a footwear concession within another fashion boutique to start selling his shoes. Six years later, the first standalone Aldo store was opened in 1978. Throughout the 80s, the company quickly grew, eventually opening 95 stores. Following its success in Canada, the first Aldo store was opened in Boston in the United States, marking the beginning of the brand’s global expansion in 1993, and followed by a store opening in Israel in 1994 via a franchise agreement. By 2002, Aldo’s footprint included stores in the UAE and the other Gulf States, the UK, and Singapore.

Having successfully established itself in North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, Aldo set its sights on Africa. The first Aldo store was opened in South Africa in September 2005 under a franchise licensing agreement with The House of Busby. In 2014, the Aldo Accessories sub-brand was also launched, increasing Aldo’s presence in the country. There are currently 33 Aldo and 2 Aldo Accessories stand-alone stores operating from malls, as well as 34 Aldo shop-in-shop operations in Edgars clothing stores across South Africa. The company’s product lines are also available from its own online store as well as on other platforms such as Zando. The brand’s products are targeted to male and female consumers who seek quality and on-trend shoes and fashion accessories at an affordable price. Aldo has continued to expand with stores in Botswana, Burkina Faso, Namibia, and Mozambique, taking advantage of the appetite for international brands and the growing middle-class consumer base on the African continent. From its humble beginnings 45 years ago, Aldo has grown to a globally recognised brand with 900 stores in more than 40 countries worldwide.

In 1985, Aldo was one of the first companies to support the fight against AIDS at a time when the disease was largely misunderstood. Aldo has since contributed millions of dollars to the cause and established the Aldo Fights campaign in 2005.
