This Cape Town retailer offers a variety of high-quality kitchenware from its two location.

BANKS Kitchen Shop and Boutique has been a fixture in the Cape Town retail landscape for more than 75 years. The store sells a broad range of kitchenware, bakeware, and cookware, as well as appliances and chef’s clothing. The business’ clients include private individuals, restaurants, caterers, and the hospitality sector. BANKS was founded in 1939 by Avraham Banks and his son, Abba. The first store was located in District Six, with the goal of supplying customers with everything they needed for their kitchens. The store relocated to Sir Lowry Road and retains the same atmosphere of the original BANKS, with knowledgeable and friendly staff ready to help customers. BANKS continues to be a family-run business and is currently under the leadership of Debbie Cohen, Abba’s daughter, who took over after his death in 2008.

As the years passed, BANKS’ owners noticed a shift in consumer patterns and started the BANKS Kitchen Boutique store to cater to the needs of a clientele seeking the premium items they were seeing their favourite TV chefs using. While the BANKS Kitchen Shop sells a more mainstream range, BANKS Kitchen Boutiques stock exclusive local and international brands such as Heston Blumenthal’s range, Alessi, Zwilling, Maxwell & Williams, and more. The BANKS online store was revamped in May 2007, offering an extended range and free delivery to customers in the Cape Town. BANKS value-added services include an online bridal registry and offer convenient wrapping and direct shipping of the gifts to the bridal couple.

The BANKS Kitchen Boutique store opened in Sea Point in 2014 as part of the business’ 75th anniversary celebrations.
